Wei Yanze was taken aback to find that the man from yesterday stood before him, his smile as annoying as ever.
Shuai Chang did not miss the fiery gaze Fan Shang cast at Wei Yanze and stepped forward, holding Zhou Chengxing, “May I ask who this gentleman is?”
Fan Shang assumed Shuai Chang was a senior of Wei Yanze and politely replied, “I met this young friend yesterday at the foot of the mountain near D University.”
“So?”
With a slight smile, Fan Shang extended his hand, saying, “I am Fan Shang, an agent at Fanyin Film Industry and also the second-largest shareholder. Seeing your son yesterday, I felt it was such a pity that someone with his looks is not in the entertainment industry.”
Shuai Chang shook his hand lightly and turned to Zhou Chengyun, saying, “Chengyun, do you want to be a star?”
Chengyun pouted, “I am going to be a famous painter; what good is being a star?”
Shuai Chang apologized with a smile, “The child is still young and has no intentions of becoming a star; instead, he prefers painting.”
“No, I was asking about this young friend,” Fan Shang looked at Wei Yanze.
Wei Yanze frowned and turned to Shuai Chang, saying, “Honey, I don’t know him.”
Fan Shang gaped, “What did you just call him?”
Zhou Chengyun tugged on Wei Yanze’s sleeve, wanting to be picked up, and huffed at Fan Shang, “You should ask what my daddy can call my dad; you are a strange person.”
Fan Shang’s face turned crimson and pale, “You… you are not brothers?”
Shuai Chang replied, “Mr. Fan, although I don’t know why you are mistaken, I think it’s better if you don’t express any feelings towards someone else’s spouse, what do you think? We have things to do, so we’ll be leaving.”
Fan Shang: “…” What a huge embarrassment.
Wei Yanze said nervously, “I was sketching yesterday; he insisted on talking to me, but I ignored him.”
Shuai Chang leaned down and kissed the tip of his little nose, “I know that. How could you possibly be interested in someone else with me around? I can be confident about this.”
Zhou Chengyun giggled between the two of them, “Daddy’s blushing!”
After seeing the lions that Zhou Chengyun had been longing for at the zoo, the family returned home after having lunch outside.
Zhou Chengyun, with rosy cheeks, dashed in and hugged Grandma Zhou, “Grandma, the zoo was so much fun! You should go with us next time.”
“Look at you, all sweaty; you hardly look like a boy.” Grandma Zhou took out a handkerchief to wipe him clean.
In the afternoon, Zhou Chengyun went to the art studio to learn painting. After the teacher’s lesson, he let them practice still-life sketches. Zhou Chengyun looked at the apple before him and sketched gray lines swiftly; with just a few strokes, the apple’s outline appeared vividly on the paper.
“Chengyun, how have you been these days?” A familiar voice rang in Zhou Chengyun’s ear. He turned to see the gentle smile of Deng Jie, “Uncle Deng!”
“Have you missed Uncle Deng?” Seeing Zhou Chengyun’s happy expression made Deng Jie feel delighted.
Zhou Chengyun nodded, “Yes, Grandma said Uncle Deng can’t take care of my brother anymore due to family matters.”
“Now that Uncle Deng has sorted things out at home, would you like to go out and play with me? How about we skip class?” Deng Jie smiled enticingly.
Zhou Chengyun’s eyes lit up, then hesitated, “What if Dad finds out?”
Hearing Zhou Chengyun mention Shuai Chang, Deng Jie’s expression darkened slightly, “Uncle will bring you back before class ends; your dad won’t find out.”
“Later, you pretend to be sick. Uncle will say he’s taking you to the hospital for an examination and ask for leave from the teacher. Remember to cooperate, alright?”
Zhou Chengyun nodded excitedly; he loved such thrilling plans.
When the teacher came from another classroom, Zhou Chengyun clutched his stomach, tears shimmering in his eyes, “Teacher, my stomach hurts.”
The teacher approached helplessly, “What should we do? I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Zhou Chengyun bravely shook his head, “No need to trouble you, Teacher. Our nanny is already coming to pick me up; I’ll have her take me to the hospital.”
Only then did the teacher notice a clean-looking man standing next to Zhou Chengyun.
“You are Zhou’s nanny? I haven’t seen you before,” the teacher asked, puzzled.
Deng Jie casually explained, “I’m taking care of Chengyun’s younger brother today; I stopped by to visit Chengyun while running errands.”
“Quickly, Teacher, you should ask! Uncle Deng is fine; let him take me to the hospital,” Zhou Chengyun pleaded.
The teacher worried that if they delayed, something might happen to Zhou Chengyun, “Alright then, just call me after you finish.”
“Thank you, Teacher. I’m taking Chengyun to the hospital now,” Deng Jie scooped up Zhou Chengyun and headed outside. They exchanged smiles, and Zhou Chengyun whispered, “Uncle Deng, I want to go to the mall.”
Deng Jie opened the car door and placed Zhou Chengyun inside, asking, “Do you want to buy some toys?”
Zhou Chengyun replied, “No, Dad’s birthday is in a few days, and I want to buy him a gift to surprise him. Thankfully, you came today; otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to go to the mall by myself.”
Deng Jie started the car, “When is Mr. Zhou’s birthday?”
“The day after tomorrow, November 23rd.”
“Uncle Deng will also prepare a birthday gift for Mr. Zhou. Chengyun, can you help me give it to your dad?” Deng Jie asked.
Zhou Chengyun was puzzled, “Why doesn’t Uncle Deng give it to Dad himself?”
“Because Uncle Deng will be busy that day, so I had to ask Chengyun for help. Don’t you want to help Uncle Deng? I’m so sad,” Deng Jie pretended to cry.
Zhou Chengyun quickly replied, “Uncle Deng, don’t be sad; I’m willing to help.”
They arrived at the mall, and Deng Jie held Zhou Chengyun’s hand, browsing one store after another. Deng Jie had picked out a gift, but Zhou Chengyun was still hesitating.
“What kind of gift do you want? Clothes? A tie? A cup?”
Zhou Chengyun frowned, “Dad doesn’t lack anything; I can’t think of what to give him.”
“It’s okay; let’s look around some more,” Deng Jie said patiently.
“You are… Chengyun?” Fan Shang, who did not want to speak, called out to him upon seeing how much Zhou Chengyun resembled his dad.
